It's time we admit that Cutler has a better resume than Kaepernick

There has been an overwhelming uproar after Jay Cutler inked a one-year, $10 million dollar contract with the Miami Dolphins because he got signed to an NFL team before Colin Kaepernick?

However, the reason why Cutler got signed to an NFL team before Kaepernick is rather simple.

It’s because he is better.

Sure, it makes more sense the Miami signed Cutler instead of Kaepernick, giving the fact that the Dolphins head coach Adam Gase was his offensive coordinator for the Chicago Bears in 2015.

In Gase's system Cutler passed for 21 touchdowns, 11 interceptions and 64.4 completion percentage on 3659 yards, posting a career best 92.3 quarterback rating.

The ex-Bears quarterback rocket fuel arm is a pipe dream that Kaepernick wishes he had. Cutler is more precise with deep and short passing accuracy, and going through his progressions than Kaepernick.

Cutler statistics through eight seasons with the Bears:

Record: 51-51

154 touchdowns, 109 interceptions and 61.8 completion percentage on 23443 yards.

Kaepernick statistics through five seasons with the San Francisco 49ers:

Record: 28-30

72 TDs, 30 Ints, and 59.8 Comp % on 12271 yards.

I’ll give the ex-49ers quarterback the advantages of his mobility, speed, and touchdown to interception ratio over Cutler, but he doesn't’ stretch the field and put as much pressure on opposing defensive backs, which is why he falls under the category of “game-manager”.

Kaepernick 's success was a product of Jim Harbaugh's system, including a strong running attack from Frank Gore and an elite 49ers defense anchored by Patrick Willis.

Cutler always had elite talent, yet he lacked the passion and the fortune of playing with great teams and a stable coaching staff. He had seven different offensive coordinators in eight years in Chicago: [if !supportLineBreakNewLine] [endif]

Ron Turner, Mike Martz, Mike Tice, Marc Tresman, Aaron Kromer, Adam Gase and Lowell Loggains.

The Bears former general manager Jerry Angelo traded away a great weapon in Greg Olsen to the Carolina Panthers in exchange for their 2012 third round pick because Martz’s offensive scheme did not feature tight ends.

The Bears did end up trading the Panthers 2012 third round pick in exchange for six-time pro bowler Brandon Marshall.

However, the Bears could have potentially had both Marshall and Olsen, who has made three consecutive pro bowls from 2014-16 after being traded, to Carolina.

Aside from coach Harbaugh's system, Kaepernick only had to learn two additional systems in five years from coaches Jim Tomsula and Chip Kelly.

One system is from a guy who once sold doormats and another from a guy who has a playbook that is about as complicated as a coloring book.

Unlike Cutler, Kaepernick was able to help the 49ers reach Super Bowl XLVII, however, what happened to Kaepernick the moment Harbaugh jumped ship to head coach his alma mater, University of Michigan?

The 49ers organization flipped into a colossal debacle and NFL defenses started to expose Kaepernick’s deficiencies, such as his poor deep passing accuracy, and lack of confidence to go through his progressions before taking off to run.

He went from being an NFL starter that got relegated to backing up a first-round bust in quarterback Blaine Gabbert before regaining his starting job to lead San Francisco to a 2-14 record last season, tying their franchise's worst record.

Despite the 2-14 season, I do believe that Kaepernick is being blackballed from the NFL as a whole due to his controversial actions of sitting down during the playing of National Anthem before games last season as a protest against the racial injustice for people of color in America.

Clearly, there are some key NFL executives, owners, and coaches, and players who don’t want the backlash or the high volume of media attention that Kaepernick brings to the league.

Kaepernick has a chock-full of courage for protesting the civil rights of African-Americans, but he has always been highly overrated as an NFL quarterback.

Cutler isn’t overrated, but an underachieving NFL quarterback that is misunderstood.

I predict that Cutler will have his best year with the Dolphins in the absence of quarterback Ryan Tannehill, who will be out for the 2017-18 season to repair the torn ACL in his left leg.
