Did the Eagles make the right decision to pass on Mixon?

The Philadelphia Eagles decided to not draft the highly talented yet off the field issues in Oklahoma Sooners star Joe Mixon, who was ultimately drafted 48th overall in the second round by the Cincinnati Bengals in the 2017 NFL Draft.

If you couple Mixon's parking citation incident in 2016 (where he ripped the ticket in front of the parking attendant) with a 2014 surveillance video of him graphically punching a woman, Amelia Molitor so hard that he broke her jaw I feel that Eagles did the right thing by not drafting him.

Although the Eagles are in dire need of a running back, I repeat that the Eagles did the right thing in by not drafting Mixon.

Mixon is a great talent, but lately, history has a tendency to repeat itself with talented players who have off the field issues prior to entering the NFL.

Just look at the late Aaron Hernandez, Greg Hardy or Josh Gordon, who are three examples of first round talent with off the field issues, who are no longer on NFL teams.

In the hour-long interrogation video from 2014, Mixon not only admitted to using a homophobic slur, but he tried to defend himself by saying, “She hit me so hard like a dude hit me..."

Granted the people involved in this confrontation were disrespectful to Mixon from using a racial slur to smoking in his face, and pushing him, but it still does not warrant any excuses for his actions.

I believe everyone deserves a second chance, such as Michael Vick who turned his life around in a positive way after serving 21 months in federal prison for dogfighting before earning a second chance in the NFL.

However, it appears Mixon is more apologetic that he got caught than actually being genuinely sorry.

In short, I hope the best for Mixon, and that he has a great NFL career with the Bengals, but I believe he must show a change in his behavior from his prior mistakes with tangible action for it to be a genuine apology.
